Sales & Revenue · Technical sales

Technical sales

Consultative selling for products whose value only becomes visible in conversation: clarifying the need, preparing every deciding role, proof instead of claims. So your product is understood at the points that matter.

01 How you recognise it

Does this sound like your situation?

Three starting points we see regularly. One of them is enough.

  • 01

    Conversations turn technical too early

Before the business value is clear, the talk moves to interfaces and details. Or the opposite: the department is convinced, IT was never asked.

  • 02

    One contact, many decision makers

Department, IT, procurement and management judge the same offer differently. An offer is rejected internally without you noticing.

  • 03

    Reviews derail the schedule

Security reviews, tenders and trial installations without a clear success criterion cost months.

02 What you get

Three results you will notice in daily work.

  • A discovery with six fields

Situation, process, pain, impact, decision, timing and budget. After the first conversation it is clear whether and how we continue.

  • Arguments per role

Department, IT, procurement and management are prepared separately, with the proof each role expects.

  • Tenders and trials with a frame

Shaping the requirements early, coordinating answers with your specialists, every trial with a clear success criterion.

03 What it looks like

A discovery grid across the roles.

Schematic example with fictitious data

The same solution needs a different justification for each role. We prepare conversations along these questions.

RoleBusiness questionTechnical question
DepartmentWhich step costs the most time today?Which systems are involved, and where do the breaks appear?
ITWhat happens if the project is postponed? What do operation, data storage and the permission model look like?
ManagementWhich risk or opportunity does this address?Which dependency arises, and how can it be ended?
ProcurementWhat is it compared against, and what is the exclusion criterion?Which proofs and certificates are required?

If a cell stays empty, that is the next research assignment, not a reason to write an offer anyway.

How do we start?

Ioannis and Tugce Fotiou discussing a process together at the desk
This is how every collaboration starts: with a concrete process on the table, not with a specification document.

Your conversations turn technical before the business value is clear. Or the other way round.

A discovery framework with the questions that actually decide your cases, tested in real conversations.

Insight into two or three live cases and access to a specialist for technical questions.

We only need these accesses and documents once we start working together. For a first conversation, a short description of your situation is enough.

04 Definition

What makes technical sales different.

What is technical sales?

Technical sales is the sale of products and solutions whose value only becomes clear through understanding the customer process, with consultative discovery, several decision makers and proof instead of claims.

It differs from transactional selling not through longer presentations but through a different order: first understand, then show, then negotiate. Whoever reverses that order sells features to people who do not yet know which problem they want to solve.

Fields of experience

  • SaaS
  • Cybersecurity
  • ERP and business software
  • IT solutions
  • Technical B2B products

05 Differences

Five reasons why scripts do not work here.

  • 01

The need has to be worked out

Customers do not buy features but the solution to a problem they often have not named clearly. Discovery is therefore not a preliminary stage but the core of the sale.

  • 02

A buying centre instead of one decision maker

Department, IT, procurement, management: every role judges differently. Whoever talks to only one role loses in the internal alignment.

  • 03

    Proof instead of claims

Demos, proofs of concept, reference architectures and answers to security questions replace the pitch. Sales has to be able to orchestrate them.

  • 04

Reviews are part of the process

Security reviews, data protection questions, IT approvals and integration checks cost time. Whoever plans for them and supports them, instead of fearing them, wins.

  • 05

    Long cycles need discipline

Many steps lie between first contact and signature. Without structured follow-through, good conversations end in nothing.

06 Discovery framework

Six fields every discovery at FIOXX covers.

Not a questionnaire but a frame for the conversation. It makes sure that after the first conversation it is clear whether and how we continue.

  1. 01

    Situation

How does the customer work today? Which systems, teams and processes are involved? Without that picture every recommendation is speculation.

  2. 02

    Process

Which concrete flow should change, step by step? This is where it becomes clear whether the product really fits.

  3. 03

    Pain

What does the current state cost: time, errors, risk, lost revenue? The customer puts it into words, not sales.

  4. 04

    Impact

What changes once the problem is solved, for the department, for the numbers, for the person at the table? That is the business case.

  5. 05

    Decision

Who decides, who reviews, who can block? Which criteria apply, which alternatives are being considered?

  6. 06

    Time and budget

Is there a trigger with a date? Is budget available or does it have to be requested? Honest answers save both sides months.

07 Stakeholder mapping

Four roles, four lines of argument.

An offer that convinces the department can fail with IT. And the other way round. We prepare every role separately.

  • Value

    Department

Wants to know how daily work changes. Arguments: process, time saved, quality, usability.

  • Integration and security

    IT

Asks about interfaces, data storage, permissions, operation and security. Arguments: architecture, standards, evidence.

  • Terms

    Procurement

Compares, negotiates, checks contracts. Arguments: transparency, comparability, a clear scope of services.

  • Impact and risk

    Management

Decides on investment and priority. Arguments: business case, risk, references, ability to deliver.

08 Further in the process

From discovery to decision.

What the discovery worked out becomes visible in the demo, is deepened in the follow-up and is led to a decision in the negotiation. FIOXX accompanies that path completely or takes on exactly the phases where your team needs reinforcement.

09 FAQ

Common questions about technical sales

Does FIOXX have to master our product down to the last technical detail?

We have to understand it well enough to recognise a need, explain the value and ask the right questions. A structured onboarding takes care of that. For technical depth such as architecture questions, integration details or security evidence we involve your specialists deliberately. FIOXX brings experience from SaaS, cybersecurity, ERP, IT solutions and technical products.

How do you handle tenders and proofs of concept?

As part of the process. We help to understand and shape requirements early, coordinate answers with your specialists and make sure a proof of concept has a clearly defined success criterion. Otherwise it turns into unpaid consulting.

Does FIOXX also sell physical technical products?

Yes, as long as they need explaining: equipment, components, measurement technology, engineering services. What matters is not whether the product is software or hardware, but whether the deal requires understanding, consulting and a guided process.
